President's Message
President's Message
Following our last successful annual meeting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan last September 2008, I would like to bring the members attention to a number initiatives and programs of the CSVS. These proposals were all put forward at the last annual meeting:
-
The CSVS AAA screening and awareness program is gaining momentum. Under the leadership of Tom Lindsay, the participation of many society members, and the funding from our industry partners results have been produced as evident on the documents posted on the homepage of this website. New projects as a result of this program include position paper of the CSVS, AAA education programs and review articles on AAA for primary care physicians, strategies to lobby provincial health agencies for funds towards AAA screening and treatments.
-
Prasad Jetty is working with RCAM to make the society website a more useful tool for the members and the public
- Ravi Sidhu and the education committee will be repeating another members perceived needs assessment to follow up on the results of the 2005 survey.
- As a new initiative of the research committee under the leadership of Dr Randy Moore, a manpower needs assessment will be carried out. The goal will be to identify vascular surgery manpower needs in the various regions of the country. Hopefully the information will help with recruitment and prediction of future needs.
I encourage all members attend our annual meeting and to participate in the activities and initiatives of the society. Their success is entirely dependant on your participation.
If you wish to participate in any of these initiatives, have new ideas, or wish to put your name forward as candidate for a position on the executive, do not hesitate to contact me or any other member of the executive directly.
We look forward to seeing you in Ottawa on September 25th and 26th, 2009 for the annual meeting. This year’s invited speaker is Dr. Peter Schneider, Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Chief of Vascular Therapy Division and Chief of Resource Stewardship for Hawaii Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Honolulu.
Have a great year and hope to see you in Ottawa this September!
